Before joining WJXT, she embarked on a professional journey that saw her transition from Mobile, Alabama’s CBS affiliate, where she held positions as a traffic anchor and reporter. During this time, she pioneered the creation of the Emmy-nominated series “Driven,” which aimed to shed light on trailblazers within marginalized communities, effectively raising awareness about social injustices. This platform also provided a platform for the voices of those often marginalized, spotlighting stories such as that of a young woman with cerebral palsy who defied expectations in the workplace, and Black-owned businesses displaying resilience after pandemic-induced closures.

DeVoe’s adeptness as an investigative journalist shone through when she unveiled a story involving three University of South Alabama professors who were found to have shared racially insensitive costumes on Facebook years later. Her investigative prowess led to consequential student protests and the suspension of the professors pending a thorough investigation. In addition, she conducted an exclusive interview with a Black cheerleader who courageously confronted her teammates for posing with a Confederate flag-adorned shirt. These stories garnered national attention.

Her career journey took root as a reporter and anchor in Rockford, Illinois, where she delivered comprehensive coverage on topics ranging from education to crime and political developments. DeVoe’s journalistic journey continued with roles as a reporter in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and as a reporter/producer in Chicago. As an engaged member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), she previously held a board position within the NABJ’s Chicago Chapter.

From her early years, her passion for writing led her to establish a school newspaper during her fifth-grade years.
