Kenney became part of the WFXR Good Day Virginia team in January 2021 as a morning presenter. She waited four years before she could call Roanoke her home again. Kenney left Roanoke to host the evening news in Altoona, Pennsylvania in 2017 and couldn’t wait to get back. You may have seen her before she signaled and anchored in Altoona for another station in the Roanoke area. Kenney has also worked in College Station, Texas, Waco, Texas and Binghamton, New York.
Kenney is now an Emmy Award-winning reporter with over a decade of news industry experience. She’s held almost every job in the industry but loves sharing stories of community impact, holding people accountable and telling stories that encourage kindness. Kenney has covered a wide range of stories, from historic floods in Binghamton and West Virginia to a fertilizer plant explosion in Texas to President Trump’s visit to a Pittsburgh synagogue after a mass shooting.
Kenney will never forget the trial of Nidal Hasan, a Roanoke-affiliated gunman at Fort Hood, in which 13 people were killed and more than 30 injured. She also detailed the tragic murders of fellow co-workers Alison Parker and Adam Ward in what was by far the most difficult task of her career.
In her free time, Kenney loves the great outdoors, whether it’s in her garden, doing yoga, hiking, paddle boarding, or with her puppy, Paxton.
