Ahmad was born and raised in London, However, his career at the BBC has taken him around the country, regularly presenting Newsnight Scotland, BBC Breakfast, News24, and Breakfast With Frost and reporting as the BBC’s Scotland Correspondent, during which time he covered the foot and mouth outbreak and rioting in the North of England. He has also worked as a political reporter and presenter at BBC Midlands Today in Birmingham.

Ahmad became the first person to present an entire live news program from the top of Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square a feat which is unlikely to be matched for around another 30 years when the column will next be cleaned and repaired in July 2006. Most recently, in October 2007, he was the first television journalist to be given unrestricted access to Darfur’s refugee camps.

He has been shortlisted several times for radio awards and his radio work saw him regularly present BBC Radio Scotland’s Newsdrive program and the mid-morning program on BBC Asian Network.

He received an invitation from America to examine the impact of the media on a pluralistic society in December 2006, and in 2008 he traveled to the United Arab Emirates to look at how the Middle Eastern media deal with issues concerning extremism and its subsequent impact on society.

Additionally, he has a specialist interest in security, terrorism, and counter-terrorism initiatives and he conducted the first-ever on-the-record interview with a senior MI6 officer.

Prior to joining BBC, he served as a Foreign Exchange dealer in the City and a researcher at the House of Lords. After a year of studying Physiology and Pharmacology, he went on to read Law. Asad is also a member of Mensa. He enjoys traveling and says the best part of his job is meeting new people.
