Winston and his wife launched a small ministry in 1988 when they were staying in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Each weekend, they made the trip to Chicago to fund a two-day Faith Crusades, which attracted fewer than 20 participants. Winston and his family relocated to Chicago in December 1988. With services held at the Quality Inn Hotel on Madison and Halsted Streets in Chicago, he started a Bible-teaching institution. It changed its name in 1989 to “Living Word Church of Chicago.” The organization became the “Living Word Christian Center” in 1990.
The church rented space at the Chez Roué Banquet Hall in Forest Park, Illinois, for services from 1994 to 1997. The church then staged its events at the 33-acre shopping center Forest Park Center, which was purchased as the ministry expanded. On New Year’s Eve of 1997, the mall hosted its inaugural worship service. The church and its worship space have now grown into a multimillion-dollar, cutting-edge worship center. The church’s auditorium is noteworthy for its cutting-edge construction.
