Watkins decided to study journalism with an emphasis on broadcast. At first, she was a student-run news station, News6, then a reporter. From a reporter to a producer to a news director. Watkins covered various sports as a photographer and reporter for a sports journalism program now known as the Purple and Gray Network, including covering the football team when they won the Southland Conference Championship.
She is a huge sports fan and continues to cheer on the Bears from the PNW. Her first news job was at KPLC and Fox29 in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where she was a reporter and anchor. While there Watkins covered many memorable stories including trying her first crawfish at the annual Crawfish Festival and interviewing then-President Trump during one of his visits to SWLA.
Watkins then moved a few hours north to Shreveport, Louisiana to their sister station KSLA, the CBS affiliate that covered the ArkLaTex. While there she kept the community informed as the COVID-19 pandemic was rising up. She highlighted the stories of the area’s veterans and actively serving military members in our franchise KSLA Salutes and covered the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Laura.
Watkins’s career has now brought her to the Pacific Northwest, and she cannot be more excited to continue to keep her community informed in Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington at Fox 12 Oregon.
