She has 30- years of experience in broadcast journalism, with a career that started in radio as an award-winning morning news anchor and news director and for the previous 28 years, in television as a producer, reporter, and anchor.
Smoot spent 13 years at Fox-owned and operated TV station in Greensboro/ Winston- Salem/High Point, North Carolina as the 5,6, and 10 pm news anchor before coming to WTVT in 1997. She has received several community awards and honors for her involvement and advocacy on issues relating to foster care and adoption infant mortality, teenage pregnancy, and working women, in addition, she was deeply involved in children issues.
She has traveled abroad twice with medical teams to report on the life-changing surgery they perform on children with facial and limb deformities in addition she was involved with the North Carolina chapter of “Operation Smile”.She prefers the country life in manatee, she has settled in Tierra Verde together with her husband Bill, Bo the cat, and her horse Bucky.
