Diggs made his entry into Hollywood films with the Disney animated movie Zootopia, where he not only had a role but also wrote and performed the song “Parlez Vous Rap.” In 2017, he appeared in the film Wonder alongside Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson, portraying the schoolteacher of the protagonist, a boy with a facial deformity. Diggs also lent his voice to the character Dos in the animated film Ferdinand the same year. Teaming up with his lifelong friend Rafael Casal, Diggs co-wrote, co-produced, and co-starred in the 2018 film Blindspotting, which premiered at Sundance in January 2018.

Diggs serves as the vocalist and writer for the experimental hip-hop and rap group clipping. Established in 2009 by William Hutson and Jonathan Snipes, Diggs joined the group in 2010. They released their debut mixtape album, midcity, in 2013, receiving positive reviews. After signing with Sub Pop, they launched their album CLPPNG in 2014, accompanied by the CLPPNG Tour. Subsequent releases include the 2016 EP Wriggle and the album Splendor & Misery. In 2017, they unveiled The Deep, a five-and-a-half-minute track narrating the story of a society of underwater-dwelling descendants of slaves, earning a Hugo Award nomination in 2018.
