Eric Wayne Davis is a talented former professional American football player who was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round of the 1990 NFL draft. He was elected to the Division II college Hall of Fame in 2008. He was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.

Davis played for Jacksonville State, which was a Division II school at the time. As a senior, he led the team to a 13-1 record, a Gulf South Conference championship, and an appearance in the Division II championship game. He finished 1989 with 51 tackles, 8 pass deflections, and 6 interceptions. He was voted into the school’s athletic hall of fame in 1999.

Davis is the all-time leader in consecutive NFL playoff games (five) with at least one interception. He was a pivotal player in the 1994 NFC Championship Game versus the Dallas Cowboys. The 49ers went on to beat the San Diego Chargers and Davis went to the Pro Bowl and helped the team be the number-one ranked defense. However, he became a free agent and joined the Carolina Panthers who eventually lost to the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl before retiring with the Detroit Lions.

Davis worked as a color analyst for the 49ers during the preseason on KPIX-TV, and also analyzed on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. Later on, he was hired as the color analyst for the 49ers radio broadcasts, joining Ted Robinson in the booth, and replacing Gary Plummer. He was also the co-host of “The Drive with Tierney and Davis” on 95.7 The Game in San Francisco.

After the season, he was given the Roberto Clemente Award. He serves as an honorary board member of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

Davis was brought back for 1998 and had one of his best seasons, batting .327 (4th in the AL) and hitting 28 homers. He also hit in 30 consecutive games that season.

Davis was left behind in Oakland after the series and requested that the Reds provide a private plane to bring him back to Cincinnati. He claimed that he was refused a number of times and made his own way home after the hospital released him.
