Hannah Gard Career
Gard discovered her passion for meteorology when she was very young while sitting on camp chairs watching thunderstorms with her father and watching the local weather daily. Just after seeing coverage of Hurricane Katrina when she was only 5 years of age, she decided her dream career was to be a broadcast meteorologist. Gard graduated from high school and joined the University of Oklahoma. She studied and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in meteorology and minors in broadcast meteorology and mathematics. She was very active in the award-winning on-campus student newscast OU Nightly as an on-air weather anchor and Senior Weather Producer and was an intern for KKTV in her hometown.
Notably, Gard served as a weekend meteorologist at KSWO in Lawton, Oklahoma she was in her junior year of college when she forecasted for Texoma and provided live coverage of severe weather from ice storms to tornadoes. Later, she interned for CNN Weather + Climate over the summer and then worked as a freelance weather producer for CNN throughout her senior year. Gard’s experience at the national level allowed her to forecast a range of weather phenomena which include wildfires, severe weather, blizzards, and the active 2021 hurricane season.
Gard moved from Oklahoma to Louisiana following her graduation and joined the Fox 8 weather team in May. She is happy to get to know the community and the local climate of New Orleans. During her spare time, she enjoys singing, going outdoors, spending time with her loved ones, and watching Sooner football. Gard has also been a bandwagon Saints fan since she was 10 years old and can’t wait to experience all the festivals the city has to offer.

WVUE-DT also known as channel 8 is a television station in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. It is affiliated with the Fox network and owned by Gray Television. Channel 8 maintains primary studios on Norman C. Francis Parkway in the city’s Gert Town section, with a secondary studio within the Benson Tower in downtown New Orleans. Its transmitter is located on Magistrate Street in Chalmette, Louisiana.
Channel 8 currently carries most of the Fox network schedule, though it delays the network’s Saturday late-night hour by a half-hour due to a 10:00 p.m. newscast. Syndicated programs broadcast by the station as of September 2021 include Rachael Ray, Wheel of Fortune, Live with Kelly and Ryan, Right This Minute, 25 Words or Less, Judge Judy, Jeopardy, and Schitt’s Creek. Channel 8 is one of ten Fox affiliates to air both Jeopardy and Wheel; the others being WBFF in Baltimore; WSYT in Syracuse, New York; WXIX-TV in Cincinnati; WLUK-TV in Green Bay, Wisconsin; KDVR in Denver; KVHP in Lake Charles, Louisiana; WALA-TV in Mobile, Alabama; WLUC-DT2 in Marquette, Michigan; and WDAF-TV in Kansas City.
WVUE consistently ranked at a distant third place in the ratings behind WWL-TV and WDSU-TV throughout the 1970s and 1980s. One of the primary reasons for its third-place position was the station’s heavy preemptions of network programs. The station also did not carry many of the network’s Saturday morning cartoons, and American Bandstand. It preempted ABC’s late-night programming, which before the 1979 debut of Nightline, consisted of movies and reruns of prime-time series. With ownership changes and programming modifications, WVUE was still unable to improve its standing in the ratings and essentially wouldn’t until it became a Fox affiliate.
