Hegedus started her career at WIVT in Binghamton, NY, and later at WSYR in Syracuse, where she was part of breaking news coverage that was honored with an Edward R. Murrow award. She has covered some of Boston’s biggest stories which include the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, the trial of organized crime boss Whitey Bulger, and the arrest and trial of Patriots player Aaron Hernandez.

Most importantly, Hegedus won an Emmy for her work covering the opioid epidemic in 2017. She has also won Emmy nominations in the categories of best general assignment reporter, consumer reporter, series, and spot news. Before Boston 25, she was an anchor/reporter at WFSB in Hartford, Connecticut. While there in 2011, she won the Associated Press and Society of Professional Journalists awards for breaking news, general assignment reporting, and investigative reporting. She was the first anchor to live go in the air, and later anchor from the scene, of a power plant explosion that took the lives of six workers.

Hegedus was born here and raised in Lynnfield, Mass, on the North Shore. She was a trolley tour guide in historic Salem in high school. In addition, she beat out high school students from across the state and won the title of Massachusetts State Debate Champion. WFXT Boston 25 News is a television station in Boston, Massachusetts, the United States that is owned and operated by Cox Media Group. The station’s studios are located on Fox Drive in Dedham, and its transmitter is located on Cabot Street in Needham. Channel 25 first signed on the air on October 10, 1977, as WXNE-TV originally operating as an independent station. The station was founded by the then–Portsmouth, Virginia–based Christian Broadcasting Network. After being awarded a construction permit to build the station by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in June 1972, CBN targeted the new channel 25 to begin operations within one year. However, various delays in obtaining both a studio and transmitter location resulted in a wait of over five years for the station to finally sign on.

The station’s early programming format was targeted at a family audience, consisting of older syndicated reruns and a decent amount of religious programming. Religious programs ran for about six hours a day during the week, and throughout the day on Sundays. WFXT nevertheless carried the daily and Sunday Mass from the Boston Catholic Television Center. Secular programming consisted of westerns, older movies, family-oriented drama series, old film shorts, and classic television series.
