Brewer came to Boston 25 from WESH-TV in Orlando. Before that he forecasted at KPRC-TV in Houston, WTVD-TV in Raleigh-Durham, N.C., and KOSA-TV in Odessa, Texas. In addition, he spent many of his childhood years in Connecticut where his first weather memories were formed. “I remember Hurricane Gloria passing by and the look of the sky and the wind left me in awe. I loved staying up late and getting up early whenever a snow day was possible and watching the forecast with high hopes of building a snow fort the next day.”
Brewer received a Bachelor of Arts degree in earth science with minors in environmental studies and Spanish from Baylor University. One of his proudest and most memorable achievements was covering Hurricane Ophelia when it struck the Outer Banks of North Carolina. “Experiencing a category one hurricane gave me a glimpse of what the largest storms on Earth can unleash. Helping people understand the effects the storm would have on their property and their own lives was very rewarding,” Brewer says.
Brewer and his wife have three sons, Wils, Benton, and Witt. They also have two chocolate labs, Baylor and Copley. When he is not forecasting the weather, he loves spending time with his wife, Boston 25’s Vanessa Welch, being a Dad, skiing, traveling, music, cooking, hiking, and even golfing when his busy schedule allows.

WFXT Boston 25 News is a television station in Boston, Massachusetts, the United States that is owned and operated by Cox Media Group. The station’s studios are located on Fox Drive in Dedham, and its transmitter is located on Cabot Street in Needham. WFXT is the largest Fox affiliate by market size that is not owned and operated by the network.
Channel 25 first signed on the air on October 10, 1977, as WXNE-TV originally operating as an independent station. The station was founded by the then–Portsmouth, Virginia–based Christian Broadcasting Network. After being awarded a construction permit to build the station by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in June 1972, CBN targeted the new channel 25 to begin operations within one year. However, various delays in obtaining both a studio and transmitter location resulted in a wait of over five years for the station to finally sign on.
The station’s early programming format was targeted at a family audience, consisting of older syndicated reruns and a decent amount of religious programming. Religious programs ran for about six hours a day during the week, and throughout the day on Sundays. WFXT nevertheless carried the daily and Sunday Mass from the Boston Catholic Television Center. Secular programming consisted of westerns, older movies, family-oriented drama series, old film shorts, and classic television series.
