After Roy Wellborn, senior pastor of Free Chapel, died in 1989, Franklin became an evangelist. He was installed as pastor of the free chapel. The free chapel was a small congregation of 300 people. the church moved to a new location which had a 3,000-seat auditorium in 2004.
Three family-oriented conferences are held each year by his ministries. He teaches to some of the most well-known speakers and musical performers of the day while planning the Forward Student Conference, Divine Women’s Conference, and a wedding conference. The Martin Luther King Jr. Mental Destiny Award goes to Franklin for his efforts to promote racial harmony. Cheers was a camper at the camp where Franklin was speaking. After it was ended, he identified himself and announced his impending arrival in Atlanta.
