Mark McLean Career
McLean joined the News Weather Authority of 13WHAM team in May 2000 as a part-time behind-the-scenes meteorologist. “My first jobs as a part-time meteorologist were working early mornings between 3am and 7am.” In January 2001 he worked progressively as an assistant meteorologist in the air. McLean is the Chief of Weather Services at 13WHAM ABC and was promoted to Southern Meteorologist in January 2007. McLean is a part of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and holds the AMS Television Seal of Approval. In addition to local weather broadcasting, McLean has been an assistant professor of meteorology and climate science at Monroe Community College in Henrietta since the fall of 2001.
McLean also has an interest in gardening and occasionally produces local gardening shows on 13WHAM ABC and Fox Rochester. He might even be caught working at the Garden Factory on a beautiful spring in Rochester. In his spare time, McLean owns a large reflecting telescope and enjoys keeping up to date with current astronomical events. If his schedule allows, he also makes time for school trips and visits to the train station. McLean said, “If you love what you do for a living, you don’t work a day in your life, that’s how I feel working in the dynamic field of meteorology.”
