Ockerbloom is a BC High and Providence College graduate and is an active supporter of JDRF, NAMI, Special Olympics Massachusetts, and Medfield Public Schools. In addition, he volunteers at the Pan Mass Challenge in honor of his older brother Carl, who succumbed to cancer in 2004. He enjoys playing hockey, softball, fishing, and golf. Ockerbloom got his head start on his career as a TV sportscaster at WMUR-TV in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was born and raised in Winchester, Massachusetts. Growing up in a newspaper family, he has always been intrigued by current events. Ockerbloom knows firsthand the type of trust viewers place in their newscasters, and the passion with which they follow local news. His depth of knowledge about the Boston area adds keen insight to many of the stories he covers ranging from sports to politics.

Some of the most important stories Ockerbloom has covered over the years include the Boston Marathon Bombings, Whitey Bulger’s capture, the Aaron Hernandez trial, the Pope’s visit to America, and the funeral for former President George H. W. Bush. He has also covered several Patriots’ Super Bowls and Red Sox World Series as well as all of the victory parades that followed.

He has received broadcasting awards from the Associated Press and The Society of Professional Journalists. Ockerbloom received a Boston/New England Emmy for Best News Anchor in 2010. In 2017 he also earned another Emmy for his role in the station’s coverage of the State Police Overtime Scandal and in 2019 he captured a third Emmy for the station’s coverage of the Merrimack Valley Explosions.

WFXT Boston 25 News is a television station in Boston, Massachusetts, the United States that is owned and operated by Cox Media Group. The station’s studios are located on Fox Drive in Dedham, and its transmitter is located on Cabot Street in Needham. WFXT is the largest Fox affiliate by market size that is not owned and operated by the network.

Channel 25 first signed on the air on October 10, 1977, as WXNE-TV originally operating as an independent station. The station was founded by the then–Portsmouth, Virginia–based Christian Broadcasting Network. After being awarded a construction permit to build the station by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in June 1972, CBN targeted the new channel 25 to begin operations within one year. However, various delays in obtaining both a studio and transmitter location resulted in a wait of over five years for the station to finally sign on.

The station’s early programming format was targeted at a family audience, consisting of older syndicated reruns and a decent amount of religious programming. Religious programs ran for about six hours a day during the week, and throughout the day on Sundays. WFXT nevertheless carried the daily and Sunday Mass from the Boston Catholic Television Center.
