Wankum came to Channel 5 in December 2006. He has been forecasting weather in Boston for nearly three decades now. Before joining the station, he worked as chief meteorologist at Boston’s WLVI for 13 years. Prior to Boston, he was chief meteorologist at WTVR in Richmond, Virginia as well as chief meteorologist at KTIV in Sioux City, Iowa.

Moreover, Wankum is an award-winning meteorologist with 16 regional Emmy Awards for both weather coverage and technology reporting. Its studios are located on TV Place in Needham, Massachusetts, and its transmitter is located on Cedar Street, as well as in Needham, on a tower that is shared with several other television and radio stations.
