She landed her first job in TV news was working behind the scenes at KTTV FOX-11 News in Los Angeles, CA. She started her on-air as the Washington D.C. political correspondent for WCAX, the CBS affiliate in Burlington, VT. While in the Nation’s Capital Monica was also the television health reporter for an eight-station newsgroup stretching across the United States.
Dean came to NBC7 San Diego after more than two years in Bakersfield, CA where she was an anchor/reporter at the CBS/FOX affiliates. She has won several awards from the Associated Press and Kern Press Club for her work in Bakersfield.
Dean joined NBC 7 in 2004. Most recently she launched a year-long investigation into the sex trafficking and exploitation of children in San Diego and beyond. The findings of her expansive investigation are the basis of a seven-episode documentary series and multimedia platform of content titled, “STOLEN,” available at NBC 7. com/stolen.
