Natasha Stenbock Career

Stenbock did not arrive in Portland by chance. Many years of dedication to her work in meteorology and newly found faith allowed her to get a dream job in the great Pacific Northwest. When she was living in San Diego, she went from being single to married with 2 stepchildren and newborn twins in a year’s span. With the twin’s arrival, Stenbock had an overwhelming urge to raise her children near family in her original stomping grounds of Portland.

Firstly, Stenbock broke into the business with a radio job in San Diego and later moved to TV in Redding, California. She has forecast weather in Bakersfield, San Diego, Sacramento, and Minneapolis for over 17 years. On top of that, for over 17 years served as an embedded digital reporter covering a historical aerospace event — Red Bull Stratos.

Notably, an Austrian skydiver jumped from a floating platform in the stratosphere (127,852.4 ft) and broke the sound barrier with his body in freefall. Consequently, the scientific mission yielded life-saving strategies for future space travelers.

Stenbock and her team won a 2012 Streamy Award and a Sports Emmy for their work. She received the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval in 2009 and is an active member of the Oregon Chapter. Most importantly, she spent the last few years volunteering for the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities and San Diego. In addition, she has been a licensed pilot since 2008 and an AAUS scuba diver, working on research dives supporting marine reserve environments and marine biology research. Also, she offers weather lessons to elementary schools.

Natasha Stenbock KOIN-TV

KOIN-TV, also known as Channel 6 is a television station in Portland, Oregon, United States. It is affiliated with CBS and is owned by Nexstar Media Group alongside Salem–licensed CW-owned-and-operated station KRCW-TV or channel 32. The two stations share studios in the basement of the KOIN Center skyscraper on Southwest Columbia Street in downtown Portland. The KOIN’s transmitter is located in the Sylvan-Highlands neighborhood of the city. Channel 6 started broadcasting on October 15, 1953, as Portland’s first VHF television station. The station took on an affiliation with the CBS Television Network, to match the radio station.

KOIN currently broadcasts 43.5 hours of locally produced newscasts each week; with 5.5 hours each weekday and 2.5 hours each on Saturdays and Sundays. The station became the first television station in the Portland market to be broadcasting its local newscasts in 16:9 widescreen standard definition on February 1, 2007. Following Oregon Media Insiders, during Montecito’s ownership of the station, its local news ratings declined in all time periods; among the four news-producing stations in the Portland market, KOIN had the greatest loss in audience share.

Most importantly, KOIN finished in first position in the 11 p.m. news in the May 2008 NSI sweeps for the first time in ten years. Channel News 6 at 11—unlike a year earlier when it lost over 20 percent of its CBS lead-in share—held its prime time share throughout its 11 p.m. newscast in the May 2008 NSI sweeps. Its then-owners, New Vision Television, fired news director Jeff Alan and replaced him with Lynn Heider in January 2008. Consequently, KOIN dropped its slogan “Bringing News Home” as Jeff Alan had trademarked it under his name in 2000 before he worked at KOIN.
