Nina and her colleagues at WABC and ABC News earned the prestigious Peabody Award for Excellence in Journalism from reports on September 11, 2001, from underneath the World Trade Center Towers. The dusty red outfit she wore, a red suit, and black shoes along with a clip reel of her reports are forever a part of our national history, preserved in a Smithsonian exhibit on 9/11 through the Senator John Heinz History Center in her hometown, Pittsburgh, PA.
In addition, Pineda’s live reporting has taken her from the center of some of the worst natural disasters in the United States, Hurricane Katrina, and Superstorm Sandy, to some of the country’s most historical moments – the inauguration of President Barack Obama and the attacks on 9/11. She is active in the Tri-State charity community and partakes in fundraisers for various Asian American and Women’s organizations, including the New York Asian Women’s Center and the Women’s Rights and Information Center where Nina serves on the Board of Trustees.
