He was born and raised in Florida, originally from Crystal River, and moving back to Eyewitness New is coming back home for him. Knowing how Florida weather can bring, he has experienced several hurricanes and being flooded out of our home during the “No Name Storm of 1993.” McCranie’s previous job was at KOCO in Oklahoma City, the severe weather capital of the world. He assisted viewers through EF5 tornadoes, large hail storms, blizzards, and floods. In addition, he looks forward to bringing that invaluable experience to central Florida.
Prior to that, he worked for stations in Missouri, Alabama, New York, Mississippi, and West Virginia. McCranie attended and graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Telecommunication News and from Mississippi State’s Broadcast Meteorology program. He is an active member of the American Meteorological Society and holds their Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) Seal. You can’t be a Florida native and not love the water. He believes he is close to catching every type of offshore fish Florida waters have to offer.
Additionally, he plays on the WFTV “Niners” softball team. Search for him in left field and hopefully not throw my shoulder out. He has also taken an interest in all things Italy. McCranie is currently learning Italian and hopes to use his language skills one day when he travels there. McCrranie is happily married and they are blessed with two sons who like to keep daddy up past his bedtime.
