Welch started her on-air career as a reporter at KOSA in West Texas. She came to Boston 25 News team in 2015 covering important and impactful news stories across Massachusetts. She traveled with local lawmakers to Colorado as they studied the ramifications of legalizing marijuana, reported live from Orlando following the 2016 Pulse Night Club Shooting, and has reported at length on the state’s opioid crisis and the Merrimack Valley Gas Explosions. In addition, Welch had the good fortune of covering the Patriots and Red Sox World Championships and victory parades since coming to Boston.
Prior to joining the station, Welch was an anchor and reporter at WFTV in Orlando, Florida for nine years. Previously, she was a reporter and fill-in anchor at WTVD in Raleigh, North Carolina. One of her favorite parts of the job is giving back to the communities she covers. Notably, she has a heart for service and is actively involved with Boston Partners in Education, Veterans Inc., the American Red Cross of Massachusetts, Make-A-Wish, the New England Chapter of JDRF, the National Alliance on Mental Illness and serves on the board of BUILD Greater Boston, a youth entrepreneurship program serving under-resourced communities.

WFXT Boston 25 News is a television station in Boston, Massachusetts, the United States that is owned and operated by Cox Media Group. The station’s studios are located on Fox Drive in Dedham, and its transmitter is located on Cabot Street in Needham. WFXT is the largest Fox affiliate by market size that is not owned and operated by the network.
Channel 25 first signed on the air on October 10, 1977, as WXNE-TV originally operating as an independent station. The station was founded by the then–Portsmouth, Virginia–based Christian Broadcasting Network. After being awarded a construction permit to build the station by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in June 1972, CBN targeted the new channel 25 to begin operations within one year. However, various delays in obtaining both a studio and transmitter location resulted in a wait of over five years for the station to finally sign on.
The station’s early programming format was targeted at a family audience, consisting of older syndicated reruns and a decent amount of religious programming. Religious programs ran for about six hours a day during the week, and throughout the day on Sundays. WFXT nevertheless carried the daily and Sunday Mass from the Boston Catholic Television Center. Secular programming consisted of westerns, older movies, family-oriented drama series, old film shorts, and classic television series.
