Let’s fast forward to the year 2002 when another General Election was just around the corner. Ruto’s focus was still on retaining his position in the Eldoret North constituency. On the other hand, Moi put him in charge of carrying out “Project Uhuru,” a plan to enable a candidate for president to seize power at the time. Their efforts, however, were fruitless because Mwai Kibaki was ultimately elected president.

He was ultimately successful in this endeavor.
In 2011, he severed his ties with Raila’s organization and went on to establish the United Republican Party. At the time, he gave every indication that he intended to make a bid for the presidency on a ticket sponsored by the newly established party.
