Gilchrist’s career in broadcasting began with almost eleven years as a morning news host at WWBT-TV, located in Richmond. Subsequently, he transitioned to NBC4, where his contributions earned him two Emmy awards in the media industry. In 2010, Gilchrist joined NBC’s affiliate WRC, widely recognized as NBC4. Initially, he took on the role of weekend morning anchor and general reporter. By 2012, he assumed the position of co-anchor with Eun Yang for “News4 Today.”
Presently, Gilchrist remains an integral part of News4 broadcasts, delivering special reports and hosting exclusive programs. Throughout his career, he has covered significant events spanning the past two decades, including the navigation of tropical storms, blizzards, the retirement journey of the space shuttle Discovery to northern Virginia, and the tragic mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard. He also provided extensive coverage of mass shootings in Orlando and Las Vegas during his reporting.
In 2016, he reported on the Iowa Caucuses and the Philadelphia Democratic National Convention in the lead-up to a presidential election. Gilchrist also offered live reports from the 2013 Republican National Convention in Tampa and contributed as a panelist in debates for the Virginia senate and gubernatorial elections.
