In a 2019 interview, Wommack asserted that his son Jonathan Peter was raised from the dead in March 2001 after having been dead for five hours.However, Desiree (Cannon) Wommack claimed in statements published online that Jonathan was revived in the hospital after an overdose. She also claimed that the ministry had silenced her and that she had been the victim of spousal violence. Wommack was still retelling the tale of his son’s revival in interviews in 2021.

Wommack started to preach in 1969. In 1972 he got married to his wife Jamie. In about six years they had led three small churches and had two sons, Joshua and Jonathan Peter. Andrew broadcasted his first GospelTruth radio program in 1976 on a little country-and-western station in Childress, Texas.
They then founded Wommack Minisries, Inc.in1978 and then moved their ministry to colorado springs in 1980. In January 2000 the gospel truth television program began on the INSP Network which was eventually carried by other Christian television networks and some individual stations. He then joined the Trinity Broadcasting Networks lineup with his own daily radio and television show Gospel Truth with Andrew Wommack.
