Additionally, he co-starred with Britney Spears in the coming-of-age film Crossroads (2002). Mount marked his debut in feature films in 2000 with the role of Tully Coats in the independent film Tully. Taking on a dual role as producer and lead actor, he contributed to the independent film Cook County in 2009, garnering recognition and awards at prominent film festivals such as Hollywood, AFI Dallas, Nashville, and SXSW. Returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in 2022, Mount portrayed Black Bolt in the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, reprising the character introduced in 2017’s Inhumans.
Renowned for his portrayal of Cullen Bohannon, Mount not only starred but also took on a production role in AMC’s successful series Hell on Wheels from 2014 to 2016. In 2017, he portrayed Black Bolt again in the MCU ABC television series Inhumans. He assumed the role of Captain Christopher Pike in the CBS series Star Trek: Discovery, leading to a positive reception and a widespread petition for a Pike spin-off series. Reprising the role of Pike in a few Star Trek: Short Treks episodes in 2019, it was announced in May 2020, following fans’ requests, that Mount would star as Pike in the new series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, premiering on May 5, 2022.

In 1998, Mount took on a starring role in Terrence McNally’s Corpus Christi. He received recognition from the Drama League for his performance. In 2008, his full-length play Atomic City made him a finalist at the American Playwrights Conference at the O’Neill Center, and he secured the Maxim Mazumdar New Play Prize for his one-act play Love Liza. In 2010, he graced the stage in Anton Chekhov’s Three Sisters at Classic Stage Company. Additionally, in 2018, he played a part in Robert O’Hara’s Mankind at Playwrights Horizons.
