The 22News Storm Team was also presented with the American Red Cross of Pioneer Valley’s Hometown Heroes Award for their life-saving forecasting and continuous coverage during the June 1, 2011 tornadoes.

Lapis actively engages with the community, regularly speaking to numerous school groups and civic organizations about weather, climate, and television news. Lapis is a passionate advocate for broadcasting in the public interest and serves on the board of directors of the Office of Communication of the United Church of Christ.
