Holyoke came to KMBC 9 News in August 2017, drawn by the opportunity to tell meaningful stories alongside some of the best journalists and photojournalists—in the business. Before joining KMBC 9, he worked as an evening anchor at WRGB-TV in Albany, New York, where he covered everything from crippling political corruption and environmental disasters to offbeat features and stories that capture the human spirit. He is also a moderator of KMBC 9’s ‘Heart of the Matter,’ bringing important issues to light from across the viewing area every Sunday.

Holyoke’s storytelling abilities and passion for journalism earned him multiple Associated Press awards and an Edward R. Murrow award with one EMMY win and several nominations. In addition, he worked as an anchor and reporter at WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While there, he was front and center, following a number of major news stories. Also, he was live on the scene after a lone gunman terrorized a Sikh temple in Oak Creek. On top of that, he tracked a historic push to recall a sitting governor. Holyoke also covered a number of severe weather events, most notably showing viewers the aftermath of a major tornado that leveled the town of Washington, Illinois. Cody earned multiple awards from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association.

Holyoke got began his professional career at WSFA-TV in Montgomery, Alabama. During his tenure as an anchor and reporter there, his work exposed and changed a major flaw in how sensitive medical records were discarded. He also helped end the manhunt for a shooter who killed his wife on a college campus. Most importantly, he showed viewers the devastation brought on by a historic tornado outbreak. Holyoke also followed the cleanup efforts of the massive Gulf oil spill, which crippled the economy along the Gulf Coast.

The two stations share studios on Winchester Avenue in the Ridge-Winchester section of Kansas City, Missouri, but KMBC-TV’s transmitter is located in the city’s Blue Valley section.

Channel 9 also serves as an alternate ABC affiliate for the St. Joseph market.
