Stevens shares the anchor desk for 7NEWS at 5, 6, 10, and 11 pm on weeknights alongside Belkys Nerey. With a television news career spanning over three decades, he has primarily been based in South Florida. In 2021, as a tribute to the 65th anniversary of Channel 7, Stevens took on the role of executive producing and co-writing a documentary to commemorate the milestone. Stevens began his career in 1987 by starting in the mailroom at NBC NEWS in Washington. By the time of the 1988 election night, while still in college as a sophomore. He was already fully engaged in the NBC newsroom, working as an assignment desk assistant. He contributed to well-known programs like “NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw,” “Today,” and “Meet the Press” in the capacity of a production assistant.
From 1990 onwards, he spent two years as a reporter and anchor at WBBH-TV, which is the NBC affiliate located in Fort Myers. He then joined WSVN in 1992. Stevens briefly departed in 1997 to anchor weekend news at the Boston-based sister station, NBC affiliate WHDH. Much of his work during that period was also featured at WSVN. He has been at the forefront of anchoring extended coverage hours during events such as Castro’s passing and, in 2018, the devastating mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. In more recent times, Stevens played a pivotal role in anchoring coverage detailing the profound impact of the coronavirus pandemic in South Florida. Amid the 2020 election season. He facilitated interviews with President Trump, Former Vice-President Joe Biden, and Senator Kamala Harris for South Florida viewers. Notably, Stevens and Belkys took the lead in anchoring the presidential election night broadcast for the fifth occasion in November 2020.
