Loyd’s association with WGXA began in January 2021. Before relocating to Middle Georgia, he served as the morning/midday anchor and morning executive producer at the CBS affiliate in Columbus, Ga.
Before renewing his career in broadcast journalism, Loyd dedicated years to teaching composition at community colleges in Florida and Georgia. While he enjoyed helping students gain confidence in their communication skills, his passion for journalism persisted. This led him back to television in 2016.
Loyd’s television journey began at WTXL in Tallahassee, Florida, where he started as a part-time master control operator. Afterward, he transitioned to roles such as production assistant and intern in the news department during his final year at FSU. His on-air opportunity arose at WALB in Albany, where he served as the Valdosta bureau chief. Subsequently, Loyd advanced from a reporter to a weeknight anchor position at Albany’s WFXL.
During his time at WFXL, Loyd shared the anchor desk with Mercer Merrill Van Schoor, who eventually became his lifelong best friend. It was Mercer who played a pivotal role in Loyd’s return to television news in 2016. Due to his parents involvement in farming, Loyd introduced WGXA’s “On the Farm” series, a weekly program that airs each Friday night at 10 pm on FOX 24 and at 11 pm on ABC 16. Loyd is proud to call Middle Georgia home and also feels privileged to contribute to the WGXA news team.
