Winchester is Local 4’s Consumer Investigative Reporter and the head of WDIV’s “Help Me Hank” Consumer Unit. He works to solve consumer complaints, reveal important recalls and track down thieves who have ripped off people in our community.

Winchester joined the WDIV family in 2001 and during his long tenure has served as a reporter, Local 4 Defender and a weekend morning News Anchor. In 2015, when Ruth Spencer “Ruth to the Rescue” retired she handed over the reins of the popular consumer unit to him and Help Me Hank has been serving our community in that role since.

While working as a reporter at WDIV, Winchester covered some of the biggest stories in metro Detroit. He covered the scandal, conviction and trial of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, his work on the murder investigations of Jane Bashara, Tara Grant and Ronald Jabalee were featured on Dateline NBC and The Today Show. He shared the first and only interview with Cecilia Cichan, the lone survivor of Northwest Flight 255 and was the first reporter to interview Dr. Jack Kevorkian after his release from prison and years later broke the news of his death.

As a consumer reporter, Hank worked to help transform Thurgood Marshall Elementary School in the city. He worked with the Detroit Pistons to build the school library and gymnasium. He has helped hundreds of Detroiters get justice after being ripped off and works to warn us about the latest scams and recalls affecting our community and our families.

Before coming home from school he made stops at television stations in Miami (CBS), Flint/Saginaw (CBS), Lansing (CBS), and up in da U.P., Marquette (NBC).
