Majors marked the beginning of his onscreen career with a role in the ABC miniseries When We Rise while still a Yale student. In this series, he portrayed the real-life gay activist Ken Jones and, as part of his preparation for the role, had a meeting with Jones. Concurrently, Majors made his debut in feature films as Corporal Henry Woodson in the revisionist Western film Hostiles, written and directed by Scott Cooper. Premiering at the Telluride Film Festival on September 2, 2017, the film also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2017. Subsequently, he took on roles in the 2018 films White Boy Rick and Out of Blue, both of which were presented at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, with the latter vying for the Platform Prize.

Assault

On March 25, 2023, Majors faced arrest on charges of assault, strangulation, and harassment following a domestic dispute with Jabbari. The NYPD reported that Jabbari suffered minor injuries to her head and neck, leading to her hospitalization in stable condition. Majors was released on the same day, with his spokesperson denying the allegations and expressing confidence in clearing his name. On March 26, Majors was formally charged in the New York City Criminal Court.

Majors’ attorney, Priya Chaudhry, disclosed that there were two written statements from Jabbari recanting the allegations. On March 30, Chaudhry released text messages allegedly sent by Jabbari. In one message, she expressed anger at Majors’ arrest, mentioning that the authorities had to follow protocol due to the injuries they observed. Another message asserted that the incident was not an attack, and she did not endorse any charges. Jabbari was granted a temporary order of protection against Majors by a judge leading up to a court date scheduled for May 9.

Trial and conviction

The assault trial commenced on November 29, 2023, with Majors entering a plea of not guilty to misdemeanor assault and harassment charges. On December 5, Jabbari testified, supporting the prosecution’s assertion that Majors had assaulted her and presenting evidence to substantiate the claim. On December 11, 2023, Chloe Zoller, an individual who encountered Jabbari after the alleged assault, testified that Jabbari appeared visibly upset, though she did not observe any injuries at that time.

Another video surfaced, featuring Majors yelling at his ex-girlfriend, proclaiming himself as a “great man,” drawing comparisons to Martin Luther King Jr. and Barack Obama, and insisting she emulate Coretta Scott King and Michelle Obama. On December 13, the presiding judge authorized the release of crucial evidence to the public, including CCTV footage capturing the alleged assault and the two individuals running across multiple blocks in New York City. Closing arguments commenced on December 14. On December 18, 2023, Majors was found guilty on one count of reckless assault in the 3rd degree and a harassment charge as a violation. He was acquitted on another assault charge and one of aggravated harassment. Sentencing is scheduled for February 6, 2024.
