Hobbs became a member of the NBC2 First Alert Weather team in January 2022. Hobbs is well-acquainted with Southwest Florida, having spent the entirety of 2021 working up the coast in Sarasota. Hobbs’s fascination with meteorology traces back to a childhood incident that left a lasting impact. In the early 2000s, a tornado passed through his hometown, coming within close proximity to Hobbs’s mobile home. Although his home was spared, the memories and fear from that night instilled in him a deep-seated apprehension of storms. This fear eventually evolved into a passion during his high school years, leading him to pursue a meteorology education.

Hobbs global journey began with a Semester at Sea, during which he traveled to 13 countries while circumnavigating the globe on a ship for a semester. This experience ignited his passion for climate research. In his later college years, he focused on studying ocean tidal patterns and their impact on ice calving. He also spent a semester as an exchange student at The University of Northern Colorado.

He embarked on his inaugural foray into TV meteorology during his senior year at the local station in his college town. After completing his degree, he ventured into real estate as a REALTOR. Following 2 1/2 years in Bowling Green, Hobbs briefly left the industry to return to Colorado. However, new opportunities in the TV industry beckoned him to Sarasota in January 2021. As we begin 2022, he is now a part of the NBC 2 team.

Beyond his professional life, Hobbs’s personal interests revolve around outdoor activities. He relishes mountain climbing, rock climbing, camping, and storm chasing.
