Williams is an American journalist currently occupying the role of Anchor/Reporter at WPTV. Before joining the NewsChannel 5 team in March 2011, Williams held the position of political reporter at WFOR in Miami. During this period, he extensively covered the 2008 and 2010 political campaigns, securing exclusive interviews with prominent figures like Barack Obama, John McCain, and Charlie Crist.
He produced two special programs, each lasting half an hour, titled “Dreams of the Galapagos” and “Dreams of the American West.” These shows were crafted to inspire active engagement in the preservation of our natural heritage. Between 2002 and 2004, Williams served as a national correspondent stationed in Washington for NBC News Channel, offering comprehensive coverage of significant events such as the prelude to the Iraq War and the Columbia space shuttle tragedy. His reporting responsibilities extended to matters within Capitol Hill and the White House.
From 1984 to 2006, Williams made a significant impact by reporting on nearly every pivotal incident that impacted the Miami region while working at WTVJ (NBC) and earlier at WSVN (the Fox affiliate). His coverage include events ranging from the downfall of Eastern Airlines and Pope John Paul II’s visit to Miami to Hurricane Andrew, the legal battle over Elian Gonzalez, and the 2000 Florida presidential election. Beyond his domestic assignments, Williams also has international experience, having reported from countries including South Africa, Panama, Colombia, Haiti, and Cuba. Williams began his television career in Fort Pierce at WTVX, and his connection to Scripps is not new, having previously worked for two years as a reporter at the Cincinnati station WCPO.
