Before becoming a journalist, Burton led a successful career as an athlete. Between 1994 and 1997 he was an ALL Big Ten punter at Northwestern, taking part in two Big Ten Championships, and playing in both the 1996 Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California and the 1997 Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida. In addition, he spent time in the NFL as a member of the Seattle Seahawks.

On top of his career and studies, Burton is associate pastor at Tremont Temple Baptist Church. Moreover, he serves as director of the Ron Burton Training Village, a youth sports camp founded by his father, Ron Burton, in 1985. Through the sports platform, Burton works with children ages 11 to 18 on how to succeed in life and succeed both on and off the field.

The station is owned and operated by the network’s CBS News and Stations division alongside MyNetworkTV affiliate WSBK-TV. Both stations share studios on Soldiers Field Road in the Boston Allston–Brighton section. CBS4 -WBZ-TV’s transmitter is located on Cedar Street in Needham, Massachusetts, on a tower site that was formerly owned by CBS and is now owned by American Tower Corporation.

Notably, CBS4 -WBZ-TV was a pioneer in Boston television. The station started live broadcasts of Boston’s two Major League Baseball teams, the Red Sox and the Braves, broadcasts that at first were split with WNAC-TV in 1948. Additionally, it was the first Boston station to have daily newscasts, starting with the station’s first night on the air. On October 12, 1957, the station broadcast a half-hour special program on Sputnik 1, featuring a motion picture of the final stage of its rocket crossing the pre-dawn sky of Baltimore, shot by sister station WJZ-TV.
