In 1991, he assumed the role of co-anchor for KSBY’s morning show, “Daybreak,” and in January 2018, he was elevated to co-anchor for the evening newscasts. Richard expressed his dedication and said he has dedicated a significant portion of his life to keeping Central Coast residents well-informed and starting their days right. Born and raised in San Luis Obispo County, Gearhart pursued his education at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, earning a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. Additionally, he holds a master’s degree in agriculture from Cal Poly and has studied at the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education at U.C. Santa Barbara. In 2006, Gearhart returned to Cal Poly, where he currently serves as an Associate Professor, contributing to the education of aspiring journalists. Gearhart embarked on his broadcasting career on the radio, initially at KIQO in Atascadero, followed by KPRL in Paso Robles, and ultimately KJDJ in San Luis Obispo.
