From storm chasing on the Great Plains to interning with Tom Skilling in Chicago, Aaron has pursued unique opportunities to further his understanding of meteorology. He was also recognized for his coverage of a January EF-3 tornado, a rare event in northern Illinois. These experiences have culminated in Aaron’s appointment as the Director of Valparaiso University’s Storm Intercept Team.
He got his first on-air job while still in his senior year at Valpo, giving the weather to his hometown on NBC affiliate WREX. A year into working at the station, he was promoted to weekday morning meteorologist.
In 2011, Aaron received a prestigious Illinois Broadcasters Association Silver Dome Award for his coverage of a powerful EF-2 tornado that ripped through Caledonia, IL. He was the first and only meteorologist to provide a live stream of the disaster for nearly two hours.
After watching the destructive power of Oklahoma’s worst severe weather outbreak in 2013, Brackett was inspired to make his way to the nation’s heartland. He maintained his fascination with severe weather while reporting on it from Arizona. He joined the 4Warn Storm Team in September 2013.
