Schulz has been involved in various MTV2 programs, such as Jobs That Don’t Suck, Guy Code, Guy Court, Girl Code, and The Hook Up. In 2015, he took on a lead role in the IFC series Benders. Additionally, Schulz has showcased his acting skills in shows like Amazon’s Sneaky Pete (2015, 2017), Hulu’s There’s Johnny! (2017), and HBO’s Crashing (2018). His film credits include appearances in The Female Brain (2017), Write When You Get Work (2018), No Safe Spaces (2019), and the 2023 remake of White Men Can’t Jump. Schulz has also ventured into web series, both writing and starring in Rise of the Radio Show and The Apartment Ship.
On December 17, 2020, a four-part Netflix special titled Schulz Saves America was released. However, the special faced accusations of racism from some sociopolitical commentators due to Anti-Asian jokes, particularly blaming Asians for the COVID-19 pandemic. This led to the creation of an online petition on sign.moveon.org calling for the cancellation of Schulz’s comedy special. In February 2023, Schulz conducted an interview with Yeonmi Park, a North Korean defector.

Schulz started his stand-up comedy career while in college in California and continued honing his craft after returning to New York in the mid-2000s. He established a regular presence at the Comedy Village and marked his debut at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival in 2008. In September 2017, Schulz independently released his first comedy special, “4:4:1,” on YouTube.
In June 2018, he released his inaugural comedy album, “5:5:1,” which quickly secured the top position on iTunes’ comedy album charts. The album achieved number one rankings on Apple Music, Google Play, and Amazon. Moreover, it topped the Billboard comedy album charts during the week of June 23, 2018.
