Schratwieser started his broadcasting career with the New Jersey Network (NJN) as a State House correspondent, senior producer, and assignment editor. He broke the story of medical waste being dumped on the Jersey shores while working with NJN. His hard-core investigative journalism continued at WCAU-TV, a CBS affiliate, working as a New Jersey correspondent.

During his time at WCAU-TV, he reported on Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield from Saudi Arabia. He was nominated for three local Emmy Awards for investigative, enterprise, and magazine-format reporting. Additionally, like joining the pieces together to solve a puzzle, he investigates a story piece by piece until it all fits and makes a clear picture. From organized crime and corruption to reporting on the courts, he asks hard questions and does the research to tell the most accurate story.

Schratwieser altered his career direction and served in government. In addition, he served as Director of Communications and Public Affairs for the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office and later worked as Press Secretary for Governor Jim Florio.
