Waugh began her career as an assignment editor at WJKS, Channel 17, during its time as the ABC affiliate in Jacksonville. Later, she transitioned to become the anchor for the evening newscasts at WBSG, Channel 21, located in Brunswick, Georgia. In 1998, she joined the news team at Channel 4 and initially worked as a general assignment reporter. Eventually, she took on the role of the police beat reporter.

Waugh has covered hundreds of stories for News4jax, she has reported on numerous stories, spearheaded investigative efforts for two years, and delivered several exclusive reports on the arrest and prosecution of three Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers who faced charges of murder and robbery.

Waugh’s most memorable story is the heartbreaking case of 8-year-old Maddie Clifton’s murder. Reflecting on that fateful morning when Maddie was discovered in her Lakewood neighborhood, Waugh recalls the hours spent anxiously hoping for her safe return. The devastating announcement by the sheriff that Maddie was no longer with us shattered the team. However, amidst such tragedy, the strength and unity demonstrated by the people of Jacksonville as they rallied around Maddie’s family were truly remarkable.

Waugh has also covered many of the top breaking news stories for The Local Station. Her extensive reporting includes her presence in Houston during the tragic Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. Moreover, she demonstrated exceptional investigative skills by successfully locating a suspect wanted for a triple murder in Jacksonville, who had fled to Mexico. Waugh diligently followed his arrest to Kentucky. After hosting weekend newscasts for more than a year, Waugh’s talent led to her promotion to the evening anchor desk in March 2006. She then took on the responsibility of anchoring the 5:30, 6:30, and 11 p.m. newscasts from Monday to Friday until June 2013. At that point, she transitioned to the co-anchor role on The Morning Show.

“It is a true joy to work in a town that I hold so close to my heart,” Waugh said. “I consider myself very fortunate to meet and help Jacksonville residents as I work in the community.”

One for an hour-long special report marking the 10th anniversary of Maddie Clifton’s death and the other, Lost At Sea, recounting the struggle of three Jacksonville sailors who survived three days floating in the ocean after the boat they were fishing on, capsized. Waugh was also awarded the regional Edward R. Morrow award for Lost At Sea.

She was also nominated for an Emmy for her coverage of the tragedy at Episcopal, when the school’s headmaster was shot and killed. Waugh has earned four Emmy awards, three Edward R. Murrow awards and several Associated Press awards.
