Dube realized his passion for the guitar at age 9 years. He started playing the drums and bass guitar when he turned 11 years. Together with his siblings, they were taught how to sing and harmonize by his mother Grace. They started singing in church as the Dube Family Singers. Unfortunately, his father was murdered when he was only 14. However, this sad occurrence did not stop them and the Dube Family Singers continued their father’s legacy and toured the Netherlands. The story of his dad’s murder as told them by their mother inspired the album “Vader Vergeef he then” meaning “Father Forgive Them”. Dube founded a singing group in High School called “Share The Good News” in 1980.
Moreover, Dube joined a SABC talent search and fortunately won. Notably, he was spotted by a secular artist named Sello “Chicco” Twala. He invited him to be the lead Vocalist of his pop band alias “Image”. Dube started his journey in ministry in 1986 when he recorded “HOLY SPIRIT” as Benjamin and The Youth Choir. Since then, he has recorded many songs as a solo artist and forged his path in ministry. His relationship with Chicco Twala became the start of his rise. Following the release of “HOLY SPIRIT”, the song’s success made him a household name in South Africa. Also, he featured Lucky Dube on the song “Ebenezer” in 1988 and was invited as a supporting act for US Gospel star, James Cleveland when he toured South Africa. In addition, Dube later toured the US and shared the stage with Andre Crouch among others.
