Dickens’s journey into broadcasting began with Classics Overnight at KASU, Arkansas State University’s public radio station, where he first dipped his toes into the world of media. Transitioning to commercial radio as a DJ marked the start of his formal broadcasting career. With a Bachelor of Science in Radio/Television Broadcasting, he got into early morning production at KAIT 8, an ABC affiliate in Jonesboro, AR. Dickens recalls a bet with a friend predicting his on-air debut within three months—a prophecy that came true. When he was young he had a dream of becoming a rock guitarist. He remembers standing on his bed in 7th grade, having an imaginary guitar, lost in the fantasy of performing onstage.
His time at KAIT 8 saw him donning various hats, from assistant producer to weather anchor, despite his initial preference for news anchoring. Dickens’s path then led him to the Arkansas Army National Guard before relocating to St. Louis, MO, where he embarked on a nationwide job hunt in television broadcasting. The call from KFDX-TV3 in Wichita Falls, TX, marked a turning point where Dickens’s love for weather reporting flourished from 1999 to 2004.
During his career, Dickens pursued weather-related coursework from institutions like the USDA, The National Weather Association, and Mississippi State University. Additionally, he expanded his academics by earning a Master of Fine Arts in Digital Cinema, reflecting his passion for filmmaking. Now, after nearly two decades, Dickens has found himself back in the weather forecasting arena, delivering weekend forecasts with enthusiasm.
