Brean is originally from Kingston, Ontario, he is carrying on a family legacy in journalism, inspired by his grandfather, a former radio broadcaster in the Canadian Maritimes.
His grandfather achieved recognition as the play-by-play voice of the AHL hockey team, the Moncton Hawks, and received the Maritimes Press Association award for “favorite newscaster” in 1947. Before starting university, Brean embarked on an international journey with the group Up With People, where he engaged in stage performances and community service across 15 different countries and 16 different states in the U.S. Currently he resides in Brighton with his wife Shannon.
